Conference Presentation Success at URSI-TR 2026 by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fulya Çallıalp and İsmail Hanifi Nal
URSI-TR 2026Within the scope of the URSI-TR 2026 13th Scientific Congress hosted by Kastamonu University, the paper titled “Comparative Analysis and Development of a Power-Optimized UHF Morse Beacon for Emergency Rescue and ARDF”, authored by our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fulya Çallıalp (who also served as a Scientific Committee Member) and our student İsmail Hanifi Nal, was successfully presented orally.
The study addresses the design and development of a power-optimized UHF-band Morse beacon intended for emergency search-and-rescue operations and Amateur Radio Direction Finding (ARDF) applications. By comparatively analyzing diverse circuit topology parameters and operational profiles, a highly portable and energy-efficient communication solution has been realized.
The paper is scheduled to be published in an upcoming special issue of Radio Science, an international journal indexed in Web of Science Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE).

3rd LignoNANO Workshop Held Under TÜBİTAK 1004 Program
16.06.2025On June 16, 2025, the 3rd LignoNANO Workshop, conducted under the TÜBİTAK 1004 Program with the participation of our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fulya Çallıalp as a researcher, was held at the Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SUNUM).
Organized around the theme “From Waste to Value, from Research to Commercialization”, the workshop brought together academia and industry stakeholders to exchange expertise and perspectives on sustainable technology development, circular economy, and smart agriculture practices.
We congratulate our faculty member for her active contribution to the project and workshop, and wish her continued success.
IEEE BSN 2026 Paper Acceptance Success by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fulya Çallıalp and Student Researchers
IEEE BSN 2026The scientific paper titled “A Portable Multimodal Lung Monitoring System with Embedded AI for Respiratory Sound Classification”, authored by our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fulya Çallıalp and student researchers from the M4-110 EM Laboratory, Baran Karyağdı, Ceren Atılgan, and Tuncay Yılmaz, has been officially accepted for oral presentation at the 22nd Annual International Conference on Body Sensor Networks (BSN 2026), organized by the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS).
Supported by the Marmara University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit (BAPKO) under project grant number FBA-2025-11845, this research presents the engineering and implementation of a portable, multimodal lung monitoring device equipped with on-edge embedded artificial intelligence for precise classification of adventitious respiratory sounds.
The paper will be presented orally in Porto, Portugal on October 10–12, 2026.

IEEE SIU 2026 Conference Presentation Success by Our Students and Faculty Members
IEEE SIU 2026Within the framework of the 34th IEEE Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU 2026), the paper titled “AI-Based Detection, Analysis, and Classification of Aircraft Surface Defects Using Deep Learning”, prepared by our students Begüm Satıcıoğlu and Livanur Erdem under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Gökhan Bora Esmer and Prof. Dr. Engin Maşazade, was successfully presented.
Set to be indexed and published in IEEE Xplore soon, the study develops a deep learning-based hybrid framework integrating EfficientNet-B0 with diverse CNN backbones for the automated identification and robust multi-class categorization of aircraft surface defects.
